Data DeathMatch! Nov. 2rd/3rd, Fight Political Corruption and Help Schools Work Smarter!
Are you a hacker who wants to fight political corruption or thinks that our schools should work smarter? Choose your focus, work with our government allies, and join Code for America for a hackathon to improve the cities we live in.
We’ve opened critical datasets (now available through well-documented APIs) and have lined up a blockbuster group of open-data advocates standing ready to help you build apps that will revolutionize the way citizens interact with government.
Want to get a head start? Here are the links for the education API and transparency data we'll be working with.
Friday, we'll break into hacker teams who want to work on government transparency data and those who want to hack education. Saturday, we'll go into full development mode and compete for use of our apps in government/schools and magical prizes! Along the way, the people who've developed the APIs (Captricity andLearnSprout) and our community partners who have shared their data (like the Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) and local school representatives) will have your back - providing you free coaching on how the data sets we'll be showcasing work.
Bonus: Prizes - $500 Cash Prize for the top app overall, $250 Cash for each of the top education and civic apps created. Code for America T-Shirts, wine, and opportunities to showcase your app with government bodies to both first and second prize winners. ALSO - beer, breakfast, lunch, and dinner! Ping pong and air hockey when you’re not hacking to save government or hearing from awesome speakers.
